Human dimension of land degradation in Yulin area , China
نویسنده
چکیده
Arid and semi-arid areas occupy one third of the total area of the world. This vast region is rich in natural resources. In recent times, desertification has become a world-wide phenomenon, due to human activities. China also suffers from this problem. Desertification is especially severe in the southeastern part of the arid and semi-arid region of the country. In this paper, the use of remote sensing and geographical information systems for monitoring desertification and environmental change is described and an example is given of how such information can be used for regional planning.

Desert Transformation or Desertification Control?
The UNCCD has been ratified by over 190 countries. It is the attempt by nations, both rich and poor to control the scourge of desertification. The definition of which is “land degradation in arid, semiarid, and dry subhumid areas resulting from various factors, including climatic variations and human activities. It is now widely accepted that desertification is not the relentless advance of des...
متن کاملEvaluation of land degradation trend using satellite imagery and climatic data (Case study: Fars province)
Introduction: Climate change and human activities have a direct impact on land vegetation. Decreased rainfall and increased temperature are among the climate change factors leading to significant changes in water resources and energy balance in affected areas. On the other hand, human activities such as growing population, overgrazing and land use changes that make change in land conditions, al...

This paper presents a study on land degradation monitoring focused in the west part of the MuUs Sandy Land in Ordos, one of the important dry areas in China, aiming to understand land degradation distribution in space and time and the role of anthropogenic action in such land surface processes at local level. Multi-temporal Landsat images (MSS 1978, 1979; TM 1987, 1989, 1991 and 2007; ETM+ 1999...

Soil productivity decline caused by inappropriate land use and human factors is the main threat to the functioning of soil resources and ecosystems in different regions of Iran, especially in Kermanshah Province. This research was designed to evaluate the effectiveness almond cultivation with a surface and subsurface harvesting system in improving soil permeability and inhibition of soil erosio...
متن کاملInvestigation of pedological criterion on land degradation in quaternary rock units (case study: Rude-Shoor watershed area)
To investigate pedological criterion on land degradation in Quaternary rock units, at first, a part of the shoor watershed area was selected. After distinguishing target area, slope classes, land use and geology maps were created, then map of units were founded by overlaying and crossing these maps. In this research three indices of erodibility, salinity and permeability of soils were considere...
